Presidential advisor on safe motherhood Dorothy Ngoma has stressed the need for intensive awareness on the use of contraceptives among rural women.
Ngoma said 40% of women within the reproductive age in the hard-to-reach areas do not have access to contraception methods, thereby putting them at risk of unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions.
Ngoma stressed the need of male involvement in promoting the usage of contraceptives.
Malawi on Monday joined the rest of the world in the commemoration of World Contraception Day.
