President Lazarus Chakwera has implored on leaders of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to support Malawi’s quest for establishing cancer centers and Malawi’s first radiotherapy center.
Chakwera made the call at the 66th general conference of the IAEA which is being held from September 26 to 30 under the theme “Rays of Hope: Cancer Care for All”.
He added that, Malawi continues to collaborate with the IAEA in setting up cancer treatment centres so as to reduce the burden of disease.
Chakwera also highlighted that Malawi is counting on its partnership with IAEA to mobilize financial resources to build, equip and maintain the infrastructure needed to treat cancer and train specialists, health professionals and technicians.
To date 12 million Euros has been raised under the initiative.
