The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions committee has shifted the Pachema FDH Bank Cup final date between Nyasa Big Bullets and their Reserve side to Sunday, October 23, 2022.
Tentatively, the final was scheduled for October 8, 2022, at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
In an interview with the press, FAM director of competitions and media, Gomezgani Zakazaka, said the change has been necessitated because one of the finalists, Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve, has contributed about eight players to the Malawi Under 20 National Football Team.
“As you might be aware, our junior Flames are participating in a CAF sanctioned competition which is the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Youth Championship qualifier in eSwatini between 6th and 16th October 2022. So the dates clashed with FDH Bank Cup final. As per our rules and regulations, a team which contributes more than three players to the national team is exempted from the fixtures,” Zakazaka said.
To reach the final, Nyasa Big Bullets walloped their sworn rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 4-0 in the semi-final match played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe while the Reserve side saw off their fellow lower league side Extreme FC 2-1 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
