Second State witness in alleged Oman trafficking in persons case had told the Chief Resident Magistrate’s court in Lilongwe that she was given medical reports including Covid-19 vaccination certificate despite not administrating any.
The witness added that she was only told about her Oman destination at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe having previously been assured that she was traveling to Dubai for work.
She said after airport officials discovered discrepancies of her traveling details, she was barred from boarding the plane and reported to police right in Lilongwe.
Magistrate Madalitso Khoswe Chimwaza adjourned hearing of the matter to next week where the defense is expected to continue with cross examination.
“Our assessment on the two witnesses still backtrace our arguments that there was no elements of deception that these individuals were going to Oman, the knew they were going to Oman.
“And also they had knowledge that they were going to work there as domestic workers, so there is no any element of deception,” said Umali Mataka, one of the defense lawyers.
Another first witness winded up rendering her testimony but was told may be recalled for cross examination.
The suspects Tinenenji Toppie Ebbex Nsaku, Goodson Makala, Chancy Namaheya, Douglas Banda, Killion Kathakamba, Happiness Nkhoma and Manase Robster Nyirenda are still in police custody since their arrest in August this year.
