Cancer Survivors Quest (CSQ) has reiterated calls for the country to raise awareness on cervical cancer in order to eliminate this disease as a public health problem.
Speaking to Yoneco FM online as November 17 marks the second anniversary of a historic movement, celebrating the first time the world committed to eliminate cervical, CSQ founder Chikhulupiliro Ng’ombe said Malawi has intensified cervical cancer screening, but awareness is still key.
Ng’ombe also implored on government to ensure it fast tracks the process of getting cancer centers up and running.
“We are hoping that by January the cancer center will be open, that will be a good step towards the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem,” Ng’ombe said.
Additionally, Ng’ombe said: “We can have all the screening and treatment but if people don’t know we’ll still get the same results where people go to the hospitals late.”
Worldwide leaders, survivors, advocates, partners, and stakeholders will call for action to eliminate cervical cancer through dialogue.
