The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) says it wants to conduct a market study in the country’s education sector.
According to a public notice issued by the Commission and signed by its acting executive director Apoche Itimu, the objective of the study is to establish the level of competition in the relevant markets.
Reads the notice: “During the study, the Commission will be soliciting views from various stakeholders in the sector.
“The study targets all levels of education namely; nursery, primary, secondary and tertiary education.”
The study also aims at understanding consumer welfare concerns prevailing in the sector.
In addition, the study scope will cover both public and private institutions.
The public has until next November 15, 2022, submit written views.
CFTC is a government agency established under the Competition and Fair-Trading Act, Cap 48:09 of the Laws of Malawi.
The Commission is mandated to regulate, monitor, control and prevent acts or behavior which are likely to adversely affect competition and fair trading in Malawi.
