The Office of the Speaker has turned down evidence brought by lawmaker for Mzimba North Yeremia Chihana on claims he made alleging that K30 billion under the Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP) was stolen.
The rejection follows after second deputy speaker Aisha Adams said evidence brought by Chihana was not enough to back his allegations.
The deputy speaker proceeded suspending Chihana till Monday next week after he refused to withdraw his sentiments.
But speaking to Yoneco FM after being forced out of the Chamber, Chihana lamented that he was not given adequate to substantiate his allegations.
“I wasn’t given a chance to explain, I was given a chance to withdraw the evidence I did delivered to Parliament earlier on in the morning, so the evidence is quite okay.
“And there was no reason for me to withdraw evidence which is going to be filed to release where the K30 billion had gone, I trust the evidence is correct and has a lot of authenticity,” he reported.
Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda said evidence brought by Chihana was about K750 million not the alleged K30 billion.
He said: “It’s not time for games, it’s time to tell Malawians the truth so it’s not about Government side, it’s the whole House, he has shared the evidence with Leader of Opposition and myself.
“There is nothing tangible, he is talking about the K750 million which the joint Committee is already looking at it and at the same time Government also responded about K750 million, we expected him to bring evidence about the K30 billion story.”
