Malawi Network for Older Persons Organizations (Manepo) says it is impressed with its door-to-door covid-19 vaccination campaign targeting older persons.
Speaking at Mayaka in Zomba, Manepo Country Director Andrew Kavala said over 800 older persons have been vaccinated during the past week through the visits in the area of Traditional Authority Nkagula.
Kavala said he was optimistic that the nation-wide campaign will reach out to the targeted 30,000 older persons despite myths and misconceptions surrounding the Covid-19 vaccines.
He therefore urged communities to disregard the myths and protect themselves from the pandemic by receiving vaccinations.
Zomba District Social Welfare Officer Christopher Ndaona said his office is supporting the initiative through community structures to make sure that all older persons are vaccinated.
Senior Group Mwembere, one of the older persons from the area of Traditional Authority Chikowi, dispelled myths and fears surrounding covid-19 vaccines, saying he has never faced any problem after receiving the jabs.
