Four people have died while six others have sustained various degrees of injuries after a motor vehicle, head-on collision at Madzanje along Ntcheu – Balaka M1 Road.
Confirming the development to Malawi News Agency (Mana), Ntcheu police station Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sub Inspector Rabecca Ndiwate said the accident occurred on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at around 14:00hrs.
Ndiwate said the accident involved a Toyota Passo, motor vehicle registration number BT 4249 which was coming from the direction of Ntcheu heading towards Balaka with two female passengers on board. Upon arrival at Madzanje area, it collided head on with a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser, registration number CA 9438 driven by Luta Winga, 43, from Lupembe Village, Traditional Authority (T/A ) Kyungu in Karonga who had 6 passengers on board.
“Following the impact, the Toyota Passo driver, and his two female passengers, all unidentified, were pronounced dead upon arrival at Ntcheu District Hospital after sustaining severe injuries while one female passenger from the Toyota Prado, Rabecca Ndovie Winga 38, from Lupembe Village, T/A Kyungu was also pronounced dead at the same facility,” said Ndiwate.
Meanwhile, Police in the District are appealing to people whose relatives are missing to report to Ntcheu District Hospital or any nearest Police Station.
Police is further informing the general public that the other six passengers who sustained various degrees of injuries are receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
