Government says maintenance work on four broken cold rooms at the Zomba Central Hospital will commence this week.
Deputy Health Minister, Enock Phale made the assurance during his visit at the facility to appreciate the challenges the institution is facing following the malfunctioning of the cold rooms in March Last year.
Phale said although one cold room with a maximum capacity of keeping six dead bodies at once is still operating, there is no room for laxity as people are expected to bury their loved ones in a dignified way.
In his remarks Zomba Central Hospital Director, Dr Saulosi Nyirenda acknowledged the problem but was quick to say that the situation is still under control.
Zomba Central Hospital mortuary has five cold rooms with a maximum capacity of six dead bodies each and of the four which are not functioning; two were burnt down by electric fault while the remaining two have gas leakages.
