President Lazarus Chakwera has fired Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Dr. Steven Kayuni with immediate effect and has replaced him with Legal Aid Bureau Executive Director, Masauko Edwin Chamkakala.

The President has announced the axing of Kayuni this morning during his address on actions taken in regard to a report of the commission of inquiry on the suspicious arrest of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General, Martha Chizuma.

According to Chakwera, Kayuni breached public trust by filing a personal complaint against Chizuma while holding a public office, a decision which brought conflict of interest.

Chakwera however maintained his decision not to fire Chizuma, but cautioned her against using her position to injure others.
