At least 135 people have died in one week from a cholera outbreak which continues to wreak havoc across the country.
Health Minister Khumbize Chiponda said Tuesday that 1,002 people have died so far while cases have risen to 30,621 since the onset of the pandemic.
Chiponda called on people to ensure that burials are being supervised by health workers to avoid further spread of the outbreak.
“For cholera deaths, bodies need to be decontaminated with chlorine and then placed in a body bag,” she said.
Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) executive director Sylvester Namiwa, expressed concern over the continued loss of lives from the outbreak.
Namiwa called on people to join hands in the fight against the outbreak.
He further appealed to President Lazarus Chakwera to demonstrate his leadership in containing the pandemic.
