Authorities at Kabena Primary School in Traditional Authority Khonsolo in Mzimba district have asked organizations and individuals to donate tree-seedlings to the school.
The plea has come following a heavy rainstorm on Thursday this week which caused 27 pine trees to fall down at the school.
The school’s head teacher Masuzgo Almon Nkhoma confirmed of the incident, but he however said the rainstorm did not affect or injure any learner.
Nkhoma said some trees have fallen down onto some of the classroom blocks of which has disturbed and affected the learning.
“Pine trees sometimes just beautify an area but however they are not strong enough to withstand heavy rainstorm and we shouldn’t be planting them around school areas. Hence, we are asking people and organisations to give us seedlings of whose trees are strong enough,” he said.
When YFM visited the area, trees which fallen down onto the classroom blocks were yet to be removed.
In his remarks, chairperson for the school’s development committee Khwima Shaba said they are going to cut down all pine trees at the school and he has since asked well-wishes to help the school with tree seedlings to replace these grown-up pine trees.
“We will remove all these pine trees, so we are asking whoever has tree seedlings to help us to plant new trees,” he said.
