The Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) has fired its entire staff effective February 1, 2023, as part of its restructuring process.
In a circular addressed to the employees, Admarc Acting general manager, Ethel Zilirankhasu, says the company is implementing a 100 percent retrenchment and that last working day for all staff is January 31, 2023.
The circular further says all the employees will receive letters of retrenchment within seven days.
The circular says that government will pay the employees January 2023 salaries, pension arrears and retrenchment package.
It adds that the company will give a three-months employment contract to some employees, especially those that worked as skeleton staff from 1st February to help with the transition. And these will also get their contract letters within seven days.
On September 1, 2022, former Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe closed the company due to high levels of corruption, theft and professional negligence.
Admarc has 4,063 employees and spends about K750 million per month on salaries, but reports indicate that the company only requires about 1500 workers.
