Councillors from the southern region have demanded salary increment arguing their honorarium has been eroded by increased cost of living.

The councilors the demands in Blantyre on Thursday during an engagement meeting on identification and implementation of flagship and full package projects under development budget.

Thumbwe ward councilor in Chiradzulu East Constituency Franco Kaliya said their current honorarium package is too little compared to responsibilities they have on their subjects.

Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda said his ministry will discuss the matter with the Ministry of Finance.
