Leader of Opposition in Praliament Kondwani Nakhumwa has branded President Lazarus Chakwera’s state of the nation address (SONA) as a missed opportunity.
In his address on Friday, President Chakwera admitted that the country is at crossroads coupled with deep economic woes and needs radical economic reforms.
Chakwera said the country’s economy is struggling due to among other factors; overreliance on imports from countries disrupted by war, covid-19 lockdown and global economic slowdown.
The President also highlighted the need to fix broken government systems that are derailing delivery of service, but he admitted that it would be hard to fix all at once due to resource constraints.
In his reaction, Nankhumwa, who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) southern region vice president said Chakwera’s address was repetitive and empty rhetoric.
