Women and girls have been urged to embrace Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) skills in order for them to achieve in life and also compliment in the economic development of the country.
The call has been made on Thursday during the commemoration of International Girls in ICT Day heard in Blantyre under the theme; “Digital Skills Training for Life”.
In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer at Public Private Partnership Commission (PPPC), Patrick Kabambe, who was the guest of honor, decried the inequality which exist between males and females in terms of access to ICT skills.
He cited the 2019 study which showed that women statistics was as low as 20 percent in terms of gender digital divide in Malawi.
During the event, one of the leaders in championing Technological innovations, Her for Tech, launched a She Inspires Magazine; a feature of 20 outstanding women and girls in technology.
‘Her For Tech’ founder, Horace Chipembere, expressed optimism that the magazine will promote Science, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) subject among girls as they will be inspired.
There was also presentation of awards to 20 girls and women who have achieved in technology, including a girl, Grace Salanje, who has disability on her both legs and arms and she uses a wheelchair.
The commemoration event was organized by Her for Tech, Women for Social Change (W4SC), Center for Governance and Leadership (CEGOL), Sparc Systems Limited, Inq. Digital Malawi and The Times Group.
