The first ever Lilongwe City Summit will be held on May 23, 2023.
The summit was initially set to take place on March 15, 2023 but was postponed due to Cyclone Freddy devastation.
Mayor for Lilongwe City, Richard Banda, told the media in Lilongwe that the inaugural summit scheduled for Bingu International Conference Centre, will solicit views from city dwellers on how to improve standards of the country’s capital.
Banda said: “I would like to urge citizens and all stakeholders to come forth with ideas that would help to spur development of our city. When the day comes, let us patronise the summit for it will help to raise the standards of our capital city as envisioned by Malawi 2063.”
Lilongwe City Council director of administration and carnival organising chairperson, Mussa Mwale, said the council has coughed in at least K44 million.
Mwale said they expect a patronage estimated at 200 guests attending physically with more others participating virtually.
“We have invited various people including our senior citizens to brainstorm ideas on how to develop the city and how we can improve on service delivery.
“This platform is expected to identify solutions to challenges facing the city and also help us the city council on how to make our city smart again,” he added.
The summit is expected to idealise on four major thematic areas namely: waste management, infrastructure development, street vending, greening and leisure.
