A grouping of child focused non-governmental organisations has decried the delay in a court case involving a Dutch national, Wim Akster, who is answering charges of sodomy and sex trafficking.
Akster was arrested in April 2020 for allegedly sexually molesting six boys and trafficking three girls who were under Timotheos Foundation.
Hearing of the case was expected to continue at the Constitutional Court in Blantyre on Tuesday, but it was adjourned to June 5, 2023.
A representative of the grouping, Memory Chisenga, told journalists on Tuesday that they are worried with the pace at which the case is being handled.
Chisenga added that they are suspecting that the suspect is interfering with the witnesses and also paying bribes.
The organisations under the grouping include Eye of the Child, People Serving Girls at Risk, Gender Support Programme, Save the Children Fund of Malawi, Young Women Christian Association, Centre for Sustainable Development, Fountain of Hope, STEKA, ANPCAN Malawi, Parents of Disabled Children in Malawi, Blantyre Young Voices, Article 3 and Step Kids Awareness (STEKA).
