A 21-year-old Felix Chikhasu of Ntcheu District on Saturday committed suicide by throwing himself in front of a moving motor vehicle at Ndagoma Village along the M1 Road in the district.
Ntcheu Police Station Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Rabecca Ndiwate, told Malawi News Agency that Chikhasu, earlier on, narrated to his friends that he went to a herbalist so that he could be assisted to get rich, and when he got there, he was assisted and given some instructions to be followed.
After discovering that he had missed one of the instructions, he decided to take his own life in fear of getting mad as earlier warned by the herbalist.
A day before he threw himself on a moving vehicle, Chikhasu took poison, but was rescued by well-wishers who took him to Ntcheu District Hospital.
“On Saturday, Chikhasu escaped from the hospital and on his way home at Ndagoma, it is reported that he threw himself to a moving vehicle. He was rushed to Ntcheu District Hospital where he died while receiving treatment,” said Ndiwate.
Postmortem conducted at the hospital revealed that death was due to severe head injuries.
Chikhasu hailed from Gwaza Village in Traditional Authority Ganya in Ntcheu District.
Meanwhile, Police in the district are advising people to always seek guidance and counseling from relevant authorities whenever they are facing different problems rather than deciding to take their own lives.
Between January to June in 2023, Ntcheu Police Station has registered six suicide cases.
