Over K10 billion is needed to finalize construction of Domasi Community Hospital in Zomba.
The construction of the hospital started over 10 years ago in 2013 and has stalled due to among other things lack of funding.
Speaking a site visit of the project, head of Presidential Delivery Unit-PDU who is also vice secretary to the president and cabinet, Dr. Janet Banda said she has taken note of the financial challenges that have derailed the project and has promised to engage the treasury.
The projects contractor, Union, Maoni & Blithe Joint Venture suggested that they can be given K2.8 billion kwacha to partially complete the hospital so that it can start operating as a health centre.
On his part, secretary for health, Samson Mndolo said lack of a community hospital in Zomba is putting a huge strain on Zomba central Hospital hence the need to do everything possible and ensure that the project has been completed.
