An accomplished entrepreneur and philanthropist Napoleon Dzombe says collaboration is key in addressing various social-economic challenges rocking the country.
Dzombe said this in Dowa during the official launch of the majestic Kalipano Hotel under Sunbird Hotel plc management contract.
According to Dzombe, the facility has not even reached a quarter stage of construction, saying that he envions constructing a golf course, international conference center, and an airstrip.
“When you travel you learn a lot of things, so I have been travelling to so many countries, so seeing what our fellow friends across the world have achieved,” said Dzombe.
“So, I thought it wise to bring that type of that thing which other people are doing to my home village so that if I can develop it I think it can be as good as those countries and places which I have visited.”
Speaking during the unveiling, President Lazarus Chakwera said the management contract of Kalipano Country Resort between Sunbird Tourism plc and Mtalimanja Hollings is a true indication that it is possible for the private sector and public sector to collaborate towards fostering development at all levels.
He said: “Tourism is about giving visitors a new and memorable experience away from home, and there is no doubt that Kalipano Hotel is a new and memorable experience that will henceforth be remembered as a pioneer in investment targeting rural Malawi.
Although Mr. Dzombe is a developer, he has entrusted the management of this establishment to Sunbird Hotel in which government has a major stake, in so doing he has broken rank from those in the private sector who are stuck in the past where it was believed that private sector players shouldn’t go into business ventures with government is either not trustworthy or not good at business.”
