Roads Authority (RA) says lack of resources has affected the restoration of roads which were damaged by Cyclone Freddy.
Spokesperson Portia Kajanga said the authority did not get extra funds from the government for fixing the damaged roads.
“By the time cyclone freddy hit the country, our annual budget had already been passed, so it was not possible to ask for more funds,” Kajanga said.
She added that despite the challenge the authority has so far reconstructed some roads and bridges which were damaged.
“The authority would like to acknowledge organizations such as the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA), Malawi Defence Force, among others that came in with assistance at that time, since most affected areas had inaccessible road networks,” Kajanga said.
