President Lazarus Chakwera has asked the United Nations (UN) to help Malawi’s post-Cyclone Freddy reconstruction and recovery.
Chakwera made the call during his one-on-one meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, a day after his address during debate session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“I reminded Secretary General Guterres of our pressing need for support towards post-Cyclone Freddy reconstruction and recovery,” reads part of the statement posted on Chakwera’s social media platform.
President Chakwera said he also highlighted the need for Malawi to be prioritized for climate financing.
“I proposed that the forthcoming COP28 should be leveraged by the UN to mobilize more support for Malawi,” he said.
