He said: “We have already done the collection of sand, moulding of bricks and the people are ready to have the structures started in earnest. But up to now, there is nothing that has been done.
“So, I was requesting persuasively the Minister to say that as per promised could she hasten the construction of the said Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD) in my constituency so that we benefit from the education.”
Dausi expressed concern that the delay is negatively affecting children’s access ECD services.
“ECD centers are very important because they inculcate in the spirit of wanting to learn more from childhood, toddlers, as they play as they as a kindergarten.
“This gives interest for the kids to go to school and they also create a basis for a good education standard as they move forward as they grew up,” Dausi said.
Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Jean Sendeza said the project has stalled because it is being rolled out alongside development partners like the World Bank.
“Investing in early years project is funded by the World Bank and other partners, so because of funds that are being you know given by the World Bank, we are constructing about 150 CBCCs in around 10 districts in the country.
“I just wanted to assure the public that as a ministry, we are completing these CBCCs in all the 10 districts using the World Bank funds. And again, would want to encourage each and every group village headman to have a CBCC so that our children in these schools at an early age,” she said.
According to Sendeza, in the 2022-2023 budget, there were there were funds for 2000 caregivers and were included in the budget.
