The Industrial Relations Court in Blantyre will on April 30, 2024, hear an application by State Residences employees to stop government from transferring them to other departments.
The court had in October last year stopped State Residences from transferring the staff that included police officers, housekeepers and gardeners but the injunction was later vacated through an application by the Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda.
The applicants’ move followed a memo from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), issued on May 22, 2022, on the transfer of about 136 employees from State Residences to other MDAs.
Speaking to YFM, lawyer representing the employees, Luciano Meckeus, said on April 30,2024, the court will hear their application for restoration of an interim order which the court granted them but was vacated by the Attorney General.
