The High Court in Lilongwe has discharged former Reserve Bank Governor (RBM) Dalitso Kabambe and his former deputy Henry Mathanga in abuse of office charge.

The two were arrested in 2021 and were answering charges for allegedly misreporting the country’s Net International Reserves and Gross Reserve Liabilities to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) between 2018 and 2019.

In his ruling, Redson Kapindu, said the discharge follows the State’s failure to commence trial on the abuse of office charge against the defendants within 12 months as stipulated by law.
