As one way of addressing challenges facing girls in the country, a theater company known as “The Remnant Lions” has produced a new movie whose theme is centered on girl-child empowerment.
Remnant Lions managing director, Tiwonge Chisiza, told YFM online that the movie which is tittled “Belinda” is aimed at empowering girls to work hard in school and protecting them from all sorts of abuse.
“The movie is also targeting girls who dropped out of school due to other challenges including pregnancies so that they can be empowered to go back to school,” he said.
The movie which was written by Tionge’s brother, the late Thupego Chisiza Jr. who died in June 2023, is expected to be premiered on 2 June this year at Amaryllis hotel in Blantyre.
“After the launch at Amaryllis hotel, the movie which is in chichewa language will be taken to capital city Lilongwe, Mzuzu and other districts including in the remote areas,” added Tiwonge.
The shooting of the movie, which has a cast of about 30 actors, was done in March 2022.
Among the notable people appearing in the movie, is the late Thupego Chisiza Jr, Tiwonge Chisiza, Joseph Ngoleka, John Suwedi and Gloria Chimwaza.
The Remnant Lions Theater, was founded by Tiwonge and his late brother Thupego.
