Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima will be laid to rest next Monday, June 17, 2024, at Nsipe Village, in Ntcheu district.
Minister of Information and Digitilisation, Moses Kunkuyu, said Chilima’s body, will be collected from the morgue on Friday, June 14 and taken to St. Patricks Parish in area 18 for a church service.
He said thereafter the remains will lie in state from Friday through Saturday, at the Vice President’s official residence in area 12 where the vigil is being held.
Kunkuyu said this will be followed by a public service on Sunday, which will be held at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe, before being taken to Ntcheu for the burial on Monday.
He also disclosed that all bodies of the victims on board the MAFT03 aircraft, apart from late Abdul Lapken, who has already been laid to rest, will undergo an autopsy before burial.
Kunkuyu also said the former first lady, late Shanil Dzimbiri, will be laid to rest with full military honours at her home in Balaka on Friday.
