President Lazarus Chakwera has a huge task ahead of him to appoint a new vice president following the death of vice president Saulos Klaus Chilima.

Chilima died in a plane crash on June 10, 2024, together with eight others.

University of Malawi (UNIMA) law professor, Happy Kayuni, said in accordance with the Malawi constitution amendment of 2020, Chakwera is mandated to appoint a new vice president within seven days.
