6 arrested for stealing 248 maize bags

Police in Lilongwe have arrested four people and recovered 248 bags of stolen maize worth K9.9 million.

Lilongwe police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu identified the suspects as Lonjezo Landirani, 23, Geofrey James, 30, Lemison Cheza, 24, and Ahmad Wasili, 49,

The suspects were allegedly in a group of 18 criminals connected to the breaking and theft incident at a farm warehouse in Mpingu on July 24, 2024.

“Detectives launched investigations that successfully led to the arrest of the suspects on Monday, July 29, 2024, and the subsequent recovery of all the stolen bags of the grain at a certain company within the capital city where it was sold,” Chigalu said.

The four suspects will appear in court soon to answer a case of breaking and theft, while manhunt for the remaining 12 suspects is still underway.
