Football Association of Malawi (Fam) instructor, Abel Mkandawire applauded Chiradzulu District Council and Coaching Association for their commitment in uplifting grassroots football.

The council organized a seven-day training for coaches to equip them with knowledge, skills and a Fam D coaching licence after the training.

Speaking in an interview, Mkandawire said that football starts at grassroot level hence those responsible in training the young ones need to be equipped with professional skills and knowledge.

“They are the ones that help the young stars in football, so if we invest much in the younger generation chances are high that we will have a bright future in football,” said Mkandawire.

Chiradzulu District Sports Officer, Patrick Mulinga said that the council is aimed at filling the knowledge gap amongst the coaches.

He also appreciated the high turn up of participants saying it shows the commitment of coaches and clubs in the district and outside.

“We registered 40 participants from all zones in Chiradzulu and other coaches from Mwanza, Mulanje and surrounding districts,” said Mulinga.

Gande United Football Club Coach, Shadreck Phiri, expressed gratitude to Chiradzulu District Council and Coaching Association in the District for organizing the training saying it is an eye opener for them.

“What we have been doing was not coaching but now we are going to be doing professional coaching,” said Phiri.
