Malawi has been ranked as the ninth lowest African country struggling to prioritize environmental health.
This is according to the 2024 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) by the Yale University which has also ranked Malawi on position 158 globally.
Among others, the index has 58 indicators across 11 issue categories in 180 countries which include climate change mitigation, air pollution, waste management, sustainable fishing, agriculture, deforestation and biodiversity protection.
The report has nevertheless urged governments to refine their policy choices and put up deliberate mechanisms to address environmental challenges.
President for the Association of Environmental Journalists (AEJ) Titus Linzie said Malawi lacks political will in addressing environmental challenges.
