A 36-year-old man who was freed as part of commemorations marking 60 years of independence, has been sent back to prison for theft.
Levison Wire was among 35 prisoners who were pardoned in July this year by President Lazarus Chakwera for showing good behaviour and reform while in prison.
He was arrested again on August 20, 2024, after being found stealing sugarcane from Illovo sugar estate.
State prosecutor, Grace Mpembedza said the conviction is proof that the ex-convicted is not reformed.
Nkhunga First Grade Magistrate Kingsley Buleya agreed with submissions from the state and sentenced the ex-convict to three years and five months in jail with hard labour.
Levison Wire hails from Kazangaza village, Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu district.
