President Lazarus Chakwera says China has played a tremendous role in the implementation of various vital projects in the country, citing the rehabilitation of the M1 road from Mchinji Roundabout to Kanengo, among others.

Chakwera made the sentiments when he met vice president of the People’s Republic of China, Han Zheng, ahead of the upcoming Forum on China and Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit slated from 4th through 6th September, 2024, in Beijing, China.

Chakwera said that Malawi is thankful to China for its generous support of numerous influential projects in the country, facilitated through grants and concessional loans during the nearly two decades of diplomatic relations

The 2024 FOCAC Summit will among others focus on building relations and cooperation in supporting Africa’s industrialisation, energy as well as trade.
