Seasoned engineer and business executive Dr. Mathews Mtumbuka officially joined mainstream politics on Tuesday with a vow to contest for UTM presidency at the party’s elective convention in November this year.
Announcing his decision in Lilongwe on Tuesday, Mtumbuka said he will not only take up the leadership of the party but also contest during the country’s presidential race next year.
Mtumbuka said he brings with him an impeccable track record of excellence in leadership, which strives to turn ideas into actions.
Dr. Mtumbuka said with his background and experience in the corporate sector across the globe he will ensure that the citizens collectively build a nation that works for all citizens.
He said time has come for Malawi to start implementing the ideas it makes which will help it develop and help its citizens thrive.
Mtumbuka pledged to make Malawi a better nation again by, among others, scrapping off some taxes, improving education, health, agriculture, and mining, among other key sectors.
He also described the late former vice president Saulos Chilima as the best president the country never had.
