Seven people have been arrested in Lilongwe for allegedly stealing cellphones and money from patrons at the Best of Gwamba Music concert at Civo Stadium over the weekend.

The suspects have been identified as Blessings Sinoya, 19, Steven Mtembo, 23, James Mangombo, 27, Mike Sakala, 22, Abraham Chiusi, 23, Mphatso Mwale 23, and Joseph Batani, 16.

Lilongwe police deputy spokesperson Khumbo Sanyiwa, said that the suspects, took advantage of the large crowd and the drunkenness of the music lovers to steal their handbags and pickpocketing cellphones and money.

“Some of the stolen items were recovered same night, and efforts are underway to recover the remaining cellphones,” Sanyiwa said.

The Best of Gwamba Music concert at Civo Stadium on Saturday, attracted a number of both local, and international music artists such as Kamo Mphela and Focalist from South Africa.
