The Ministry of Education has advised all teachers to register with the Teachers Council of Malawi (TCM) by December 31, 2024, or risk not being regarded as teachers in respect to the Education Act of 2013.

According to the Education Act of 2013, all teachers are supposed to obtain a license from Teachers Council of Malawi which was established to oversee the registration, licensing and upholding the teaching standards in Malawi.

According to public relations officer for the ministry of education, Mphatso Nkuonera, by September 30, 2024, over 65,000 teachers out of the initial 100, 000 registered teachers had already received teaching licenses.
