The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) says it is developing a national multi-hazard contingency plan in readiness of any unforeseen disasters which may occur during the rainy season.
Dodma spokesperson, Chipiliro Khamula told YFM that preparations of the plan follow the risk of flooding raised by the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services.
Khamula disclosed that among other things, the department has prepositioned search and rescue equipment such as boats and some relief items are in place.
“We have also made a standby deployment of a research and rescue team comprising of the Malawi Defense Force, the Malawi Redcross Society, the Marine department, the Malawi Police Force and other stakeholders if need arises, among other things,” he said.
