DEC Construction Limited, the contractor for the Zomba Stadium, has revealed that a certificate of payment to complete the project was submitted to authorities six months ago but remains unpaid by the central government.
Dan Tchale, Managing Director of DEC Construction, stated that phase 2 of the stadium’s construction could be completed within four months if payment is made.
Wilkness Nakanga, coordinator of the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Zomba chapter, emphasized that advocacy for the completion of the stadium is the only viable solution.
Nakanga added that all possible channels to finish the project have been exhausted, and it is now crucial for local residents to take action.
He made these comments during a meeting on Saturday between Zomba sports enthusiasts and the stadium taskforce to discuss the progress of the stadium, which has been under construction for eight years.
