Govt launches five-year cholera control plan

The Ministry of Health has launched a five-year National Multi-Sectoral Cholera Control Plan (MMCCP) and Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) campaign to combat cholera outbreaks in the country.

Speaking at the launch in Lilongwe, Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda stated that the plan aims to reduce annual cholera incidence and enhance coordination and implementation in the fight against the disease.

Chiponda also emphasized her ministry’s commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of the plan.

UNICEF representative to Malawi, Shadrack Amol, also pledged support for the initiative, reaffirming UNICEF’s commitment to ending cholera in the country.

Amol said UNICEF will provide financial, technical, and advocacy support to help implement the cholera control plan and achieve a cholera-free Malawi by 2030.
