The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has urged stakeholders to take collective action in promoting safe online practices to create a secure and positive digital space.
In a statement marking Safer Internet Day, MACRA Director General Daud Suleman emphasized the need for heightened awareness and support to ensure cybersecurity.
He highlighted that while technological advancements have brought numerous benefits, they have also introduced challenges that threaten a positive digital experience.
“As technology evolves, the challenges in ensuring a safe and secure online environment grow daily,” Suleman said. “Children and teenagers, as the most frequent internet users, are particularly vulnerable to the ever-changing digital landscape.”
He called on parents, educators, and policymakers to collaborate in equipping young people with the skills needed to navigate cyberspace safely.
Suleman also stressed the importance of joint efforts in raising awareness, developing educational programs, and fostering a culture of respect and safety online.
He also underscored the need for ongoing discussions and proactive initiatives to cultivate responsible digital citizenship among future generations.
