The first round of the Tobacco Estimates Survey for the 2024/2025 farming season projects a 31% increase in tobacco production compared to last year’s sales.
Conducted between January 13 and January 31, 2025, the survey estimates that the country will produce 174.4 million kilograms of tobacco, up from the 133 million kilograms sold in 2024.
According to the report, this growth is attributed to an increase in the number of tobacco growers and expanded farm hectarage, driven by favorable prices in the previous season.
Speaking to YFM, Tobacco Commission spokesperson Telephorous Chigwenembe expressed optimism about the upcoming season, predicting strong profits that will significantly boost the economy.
