169 families displaced by floods in Mulanje

The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) reports that preliminary assessments indicate 169 families have been impacted by flash floods in Mulanje District, triggered by Cyclone Jude.

Charles Kalemba, the Commissioner for Disaster Management Affairs, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that the affected families are located in the area under Traditional Authority Mkanda.

“A team from the council has been deployed to carry out further assessments and verifications, while the department makes arrangements to provide relief assistance,” the statement reads.

Kalemba also pointed out that several districts in the southern part of the country continue to experience heavy rains, with Chididi in Nsanje District recording the highest rainfall at 81 millimeters.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and stay informed by following weather updates, as the rains are expected to intensify in the next 24 hours.
